Superman #73 (Continuity problem)

Superman #73

Well, this is one of those ridicously expensive issues, and it's not for waverider joining the linear men, nope... it's for just one page... that's all, the Doomsday page that makes this month more expensive to get that all the Death of Superman saga.
Anyway... something I didn't like about this issue was that Jurgens "forgot" that Matthew Ryder's Parents were supposed to die the day Monarch attacked. (Or at least his father). While in this issue he repeats several times that he and the new Matthew Ryder had the same life until college.
Personally... I can live with that, Jurgens and Waverider are wondeful mix but... yet... I say to myself this is one of those anomalies from Zero Hour :p

So... is he really back?

After DCU #0... the final left us thinking if certain speedster is back...
We have mainly two options, but... we all know for sure it's him... Barry Allen.

I'm not a fan of "elseworlds", specially when they were so common. But this is one hell of a book. It's plain simple. Kal-El was discovered by Thomas Wayne, and the story went on like we know. So Kal-El became Bruce Wayne and later he'd became Batman.

Bruce Wayne meets Lois (sparks), and Luthor is a mix between Luthor, Joker and Penguin.

Anyway... it's kinda cool, but it's not very deep though. This story won the Comic Buyer's Guide Fan Award for Favorite Original Graphic Novel or Album in 1993.

Batman: Vengeance of Bane

Dixon, Nolan, Barreto... An explosive mix when it comes to Batman. I really enjoy Nolan's Batman (that is Graham, not Christopher, altough I enjoy his too :p).
Vengeance of Bane is the "Origin story" for Bane. How he came to be, his link to the "Venom" saga, and his hate for Batman.
Of course... this story was just an introduction for Knightfall, a saga a lot of fans hate for strange reasons (they hate it because Batman was replaced, but that was never meant to last, it was just a story).
Anyway... after a long time of not-so-special stories, the Batman universe was starting to live to its fame. (and it did, for several years, the Batman titles became the best-selling at DC).

Detective Comics #654, 655, 656

Well, well... What can I say? Dixon surprised me again.

This was the time when Grant and Breyfogle went to Shadow of the Bat, so Dixon and a couple of artist took Detective Comics. Graham Nolan in general, but this 3 chapters were made by Netzer (who was in Detective a long while actually... like... 10 numbers or so).

This is the story about a boy named "The General", now, I met this character during Dixon's run in Robin, but this is the origin. And I gotta say that I thought Netzer wasn't good enough for this title and I was wrong. There are a couple of splash pages, I know... But... he's good. You don't get bored. I recommend this 3-issue story, mostly because of Dixon, and his skill to tell a story with ease.

Also... You can take a look at a couple of "mysterious" guys, like Bane and Trogg planning...

Crisis at Hand

I've been reading chronologically since 1986. And the Superman Titles are a bit surprising, and they reflect a quality that you can't find in those book right now. Of course, most of the credits go for Mike Carlin (yeah, the same guy that was editing Countdown).

Well, the two-parter i just read was "Crisis at hand", crossing over Man of Steel and Superman (october 1992). Well, Bogdanove really homages a small spart from Action Comics #1 when we find out that Superman tried to "scare" a violent husband, throwing him from a window. (he catched him later, of course). But this ended up in failure, since the guy ended up killing his wife after that. So, when Clark's neighbours start having domestic violence, he finds himself in a terrible situation, since he cannot do anything at all for them.

It's a good read.
